Forgiven Sunday

Forgiven Sunday

Forgiveness Sunday is the last day before Great Lent, the end of Shrovetide week and the line between the fun of the "farewell to winter" and strict abstinence on the days of fasting before the Bright Sunday of Christ.

The main thing in this rite is sincerity. Only real repentance will help clear the soul and conscience before those whom we could offend inadvertently (or even on purpose). On such an important day, it is necessary to approach a person with the words “forgive me, perhaps,” putting repentance into this phrase. In response, the interlocutor says: "God will forgive, and I forgive" - and these words mean the purification and acceptance of a person as he really is, without embellishment and distortion.

The rite of forgiveness takes place in the Pskov-Pechersky Svyato -The Uspensky Monastery. St. Michael's Cathedral.
